For Parents

What is School Play Stream?
School Play Stream is a secure, on-demand platform where verified schools upload recordings of their performances. Parents purchase access and watch from the comfort of home — on any device, at any time.
How do I watch my child’s play?
Log in to your Parent Area, find your school’s play, complete your purchase, and the video will appear instantly in Your Video Library.
How much does it cost?
Each play costs €25 including VAT. There are no subscription fees or hidden charges.
Can I download the video?
No. All playback is streaming-only within your account. Your purchase remains available in your library for long-term replay whenever you wish to watch again.
Where does the money go?
From each €25 purchase:

VAT (23%) is deducted first (included in the €25 price): €4.67
Banking and processing fees: €0.75
Playwright royalty (where the video is linked to a licensed script): €2.00
Your school receives half of the remaining net amount: €8.78

Figures are calculated from a €25 price including 23% VAT and are rounded to the nearest cent. Actual processing costs may vary slightly.
What devices can I use?
School Play Stream works on any modern browser — desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile. No app download is required.
I cannot find a video I have purchased.
Open Your Video Library in the Parent Dashboard. If the video is not listed, check your order confirmation email or contact our support team and we will resolve it promptly.
Is my child’s performance safe online?
Yes. Videos are never made publicly available. Only parents and guardians with a paid account can access a school’s content. Every school is manually verified before it can upload, and no video is shared beyond the platform.

For Schools

Who can upload videos?
Only manually verified schools. Every registration is reviewed by our team before upload access is granted, ensuring the platform remains safe and trusted.
How do we upload a performance?
Sign in to your School Dashboard and click Upload Videos. Give the video a clear title, select your file, and submit. Our system handles the rest.
Do we need a playwright’s script to upload a video?
No. If your school writes its own original play, you can upload the video without a licence code. You will earn €9.78 per purchase rather than the licensed rate. If you do use a script from our playwright library, simply paste in the licence code during upload and the royalty is handled automatically.
Can our school write its own play?
Absolutely — and we have built the tools to help you do exactly that. From your School Dashboard you can access:

Create Your Own School Play — a step-by-step guide for drama teachers, with printable brainstorm sheets, a character creation worksheet, and a scene planner.
Script Builder — an online editor where you type up the play scene by scene. It saves automatically to your account so you can return to it across multiple sessions, print a rehearsal script for the cast, and copy the finished script directly into the upload page when you are ready.

When your play is uploaded to the platform, other schools across Ireland can discover it, licence it, and perform it — and your school earns a €2.00 royalty on every video sold.
Can our school become a playwright?
Yes. Any verified school can become a playwright in a couple of minutes directly from their dashboard. Click Become a Playwright, complete a short profile, and your school’s scripts become discoverable by the 4,000 schools on the platform. All royalty payments go straight to your existing school Stripe account — there is nothing new to set up.
How much does our school earn per video sale?
Non-licensed video (your school wrote the script): €9.78 per purchase
Licensed video (using a playwright’s script): €8.78 per purchase
School-playwright royalty (another school performs your script): €2.00 per purchase

If your school both performs and wrote the script, you receive the school share and the playwright royalty on the same sale.
When does payment arrive?
Your school’s share is transferred automatically as soon as a parent completes a purchase. Funds typically appear in your Stripe account within one to two business days, depending on your bank’s processing times.
How are payments handled?
All payments are processed securely by Stripe. Your school connects a Stripe account during registration, and all earnings — including playwright royalties — are paid directly into that account. School Play Stream handles all VAT obligations on your behalf.
What video formats do you accept?
Preferred MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio). Most modern smartphones and cameras record in a compatible format by default.
What security measures are in place?
School Play Stream uses a multi-layer approach to keep the platform safe for schools and families:

No file uploads — ever: Playwrights do not upload documents of any kind. Scripts are pasted directly as plain text into the platform. When a school licences a script, they copy and paste the text at their end. This means there are no attachments, no downloadable files, and no possibility of a virus, malware, or malicious document entering the system through a script. It is a fundamentally more secure model than platforms that accept file uploads.

Verified access: only manually approved schools can upload video content to the platform.
Script screening: all submitted scripts are automatically scanned and blocked if they contain code-like content, suspicious elements, or language inappropriate for a school setting.
Audit logging: any blocked submission is recorded and visible to administrators for review.

Scripts on School Play Stream are plain text — nothing more. No executable content, no embedded files, no attachments. It is one of the safest ways a school can engage with creative content online.

For Playwrights

How does the playwright section work?
Register for a Playwright account, paste in your script, and a licence code is generated automatically. Verified schools link their performance videos to your work using that code. Every time a parent purchases a video linked to your script, you receive a €2.00 royalty paid directly to your account.
I am not a professional playwright — can I still upload my work?
Absolutely. School Play Stream is open to anyone with an original script suitable for a school audience — whether you are a seasoned professional, a first-time writer, or a drama teacher who has written something wonderful for your own class. Storytelling belongs to everyone.
Can a school also be a playwright?
Yes. Schools can become playwrights directly from their dashboard. If a class writes an original play, the school can upload the script to the platform, where other schools can discover, licence, and perform it. The school earns a royalty on every video sold — in addition to their normal school earnings when they perform it themselves.
How much do I earn?
You receive €2.00 net for every purchased video linked to your play. There is no limit to the number of schools that can licence your script or the number of videos they can sell.
Who can see my scripts?
Only verified schools can browse and licence your scripts. Your work is never publicly visible to parents or the general public.
I have existing licensing arrangements. Can I still use School Play Stream?
Yes, provided doing so does not conflict with your existing agreements. School Play Stream operates as a separate, independent platform. We recommend checking with your publisher or agent if you have any doubts. Earnings are paid directly to your nominated bank account.
How do I track my earnings?
Your Playwright Dashboard gives you a clear view of all sales linked to your scripts, including dates, order numbers, and royalty amounts. You can also download a PDF summary for your records.
What are the copyright rules?
You must only upload work that is entirely your own original creation. By publishing on School Play Stream, you grant verified schools a licence to perform and record your work under the terms of the platform. You retain full copyright ownership at all times.
